Assistant Professor Lucas Caretta

Caretta is an Assistant Professor in the School of Engineering at Brown University in the Materials Group. He received his BS from the University of Minnesota and his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology as an NSF Graduate Student Fellow and GEM Consortium Fellow. He completed his postdoctoral studies in the Ramesh Lab at the University of California, Berkeley where he was a President’s Postdoctoral Fellow and a Ford Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow.

  • Mechanical degradation of electrodes in rechargeable batteries.

  • Understanding the mechanics of lithium metal penetration in solid state battery electrolytes and mitigation strategies using thin film mechanics

  • Developing Multiphysics models of rechargeable battery electrodes.

Shiyu (Sherry) Zhou

Research interests:

  • Magnetic, ferroelectric and multiferroic materials, particularly oxides.

  • Utilizing material symmetry and structure to design and fabricate spintronic devices with various functionalities, including spin-logic devices, in-memory computing devices, and superconducting diodes.

 

Shih Wei Chiu

Research interests:

  • Epitaxial heterostructures of ferroic oxide films using pulse laser deposition for spintronic devices.

  • Developing optical systems for measuring ferroelectric materials.

  • Probing spin-correlated quantum phenomena by using synchrotron-based angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy.
